Note the flat pilot on No. 4894. It was originally built with a drop-coupler pilot. I'd guess that during the final years when fatal structural defects were being detected and units were being cannibalized, No. 4894's running gear was cannibalized out and the carbody mounted on a still-reasonably-intact unit from the original 1935 group of 57 units, all of which had flat pilots.
