Back in 93 these were the last two buildings left from the Milwaukee Road's Dubuque Shops. How that yard office ever past a fire inspection I'll never know. When I got transferred down to the Quad Cities in 92 as Road Foreman this was my territory too. One of my first jobs was to have the Engineers adhere to the CP's new policy of engine shut downs when not in use. Well....it turns out that those old geeps had such poor batteries that if you shut them down they needed a jump to get started. Needless to say all Engineers complied with my instructions and on Monday morning there wasn't a switch engine that would start from Lacrosse to Savanna. When Trainmaster Wrecza found out he did not have a working switch engine at four terminals the you know what hit the fan. It turned out that my General Road Foreman was on my side and the Mechanical Department had to get new batteries in those old geeps pronto. Since I knew Jmmy from the old Milwaukee Road things got smoothed out the old Milwaukee way.

Thanks Tom for comment. I had wanted to add info on the shops but couldn't find details, seem to remember they were converted to car shops but don't remember details. Seems also I remember waiting on south end of yard with my wife at that time frame and there was still Meat processing plant and the trucks with hogs would go by. Dubuque was a common destination as we would ride our bikes on the CGW trail and then hang out for a SOO or Chicago Central trai.
