The coal bunker in the tender predates 1990, when the 3985 was converted to oil. As far as giving away that it's not in the 1950's, I don't recall ever seeing any photos of regular-service UP steam with highlighted journal boxes. Maybe somebody like Chris Zygmunt or Bill Marvel could comment about any other differences.
