This is a great photo, but it is almost certainly on C&NW rails in Illinois rather than Nebraska. Here is my reasoning: 1. The train is running left-hand, albeit on territory where both tracks are signaled in both directions. 2. The searchlight signals use C&NW's distinctive background while UP searchlights used the more typical round background. (In any event, UP's main line in Nebraska typically used color lights rather than searchlights.) 3. The area has more foliage than is typical of rural Nebraska. 4. The ballast looks like C&NW's characteristic "Pink Lady" ballast. 5. Per a 1959 C&NW track chart, signals 341 and 343 governed westbound moves just east of Geneva, IL. The train is therefore eastbound, having passed Geneva and the Fox River bridge a few moments ago; the train will soon enter three-track territory at "WX" interlocking in West Chicago, IL.
