What a great shot. Those old boxcars sure looked pretty good to me ,so the paint jobs are a little faded but still the boxcars are doing a job an earning their keep and keeping that branch line open with those good paying blue collar jobs. This branch line also keeps heavy trucks off the roads that do a lot of damage to the highways. No wonder Americas roads and bridges are crumbling look at the size of the monster trucks on the roads these days. Look at the amount of rail that has been abandoned in USA since 1950 mergers and bike trails and the amount of people living here ,to cut it short build more rail lines be cause the future is here last time I looked. Thank you Bill . Love those 40 footer grain boxcars.

Washington state is a shining example of the effects of abandoned trackage. Most abandoned track by US railroads occurred after the 1980 Staggers Act which changed federal regulation of the rail industry providing more freedom to market services, and making track abandonment easier. Mega-mergers of course followed. Today's rail system is financially much stronger, but the American people have not always been better served as a result. This photo represents the ubiquitous 40 ft. box cars which served the country for a century and once was the standard shipping unit.
