Thanks Bill for the great photo. I remember reading Trains Mag when I was a young in the 50's and for some reason I was very fascinated with trains 77&78 that were the daily freight trains on the FW&D and the C&S between Fort Worth,TX. and Laurel,MT.. Photos of the train in the Wind River Canyon were always my favorites. But what really came to mind was the configuration of the power. It always seemed to be covered wagons spliced by SD's.. The third unit of the consist in your photo appears to be a passenger(steam boiler)equipped SD9.
