These locomotives don't look like they we just left. Someone removed the lagging which actually helps preserve them. I also believe the stacks are capped. That smoke box front is definitely not stock and looks like a plug to replace the old door. Tenders being covered helps too. I wounder if these loco;s had a fan for many years that was trying to keep them from falling apart. These might be good museum pieces. rare locomotives. Surprising they made it thru WW2 scrap drives !!!

This is the best photo of the two lost locomotives of the Eagle Lake and West Branch Railroad I have ever seen. While some pyromanic burned the engine house, at least some stabilization has occurred (one of the engines was severely listing) and all and all not too bad considering the harsh Maine winter. Thanks for your fine photo and the effort to get it. I hope the Black Flies were cooperative!

I'll second Dennis' comment above. Super job getting to these "lost" engines and an even better job capturing them. There was an interesting discussion about these engines back in July on rypn.org.

I echo Dennis' sentiments regarding this photo. My brother-in-law, an outdoorsman who lives in coastal Maine, visited the site years ago, and offered to take me there. Somehow, I have not yet found the time to make the trek, a big regret. Thanks for making the effort.

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen, locomotives lost in the woods...we need to save them.
