Reference this photo and 542700. Actually, NS/SOU 2879 was built for the TAG as their No. 80 jn comemeration of then TAG chairman Reference this and photo 542700. Actually, NS/SOU 2879 was built for the TAG as their No. 80 in recognition of then TAG chairman John A. Chambliss' 80th birthday. The name "John A Chambliss" was displayed under the cab windows on both sides of the locomotive. This continued under SOU & early NS ownership. As delivered, the unit was not equipped with dynamic brakes and was sent to Southeastern Specialties in Jacksonville, FLA for their application after SOU acquisition of the TAG in the early 1970's. The unit never really MU'd well with other SOU locomotives and spent its later years of i'ts active life on the "wye pull" at DeButts yard in Chattanooga hauling cuts from DeButts to the Cinn/Atl/Chatt wye at Brown/New Williams /Spell. Would be great if the unit was made operational and returned to it's original TAG paint scheme. j '
