Sand Patch grade is the ruling grade between Connellsville, PA and Cumberland, MD and is on the Keystone Sub. The grades between Grafton and Cumberland are on the Mountain Sub and go by the names of Cheat River, 17 Mile and Cranberry.

This train would be going up the Newburg Grade, down Cheat River Grade to Rowlesburg, and up Cranberry Grade to Terra Alta and down 17 Mile Grade to Keyser.
