Imagine. Its late August and you waiting for the train. The cluster of cottonwood trees are starting to lose leaves and the wind is on the job assisting in their flying off to places unknown. The train is late and your not in a huff about it. You can feel the hints of autumn just around the bend. The trees are singing to you in their way and cottonwoods whisper and quake as the wind helps them play their tune. The smell of the creasote on a few new railroad ties down yonder meanders unto you nose with the eastward breeze. The various smells associated with railroad right of way is awesome because you like trains and journeys and you headed to Chicago to get uncle Joe's 64 chevy Impala. He won it playing bingo. As you ponder about things going on in your life you realise how lucky you are and cant wait to drive it home. Suddenly a gust of wind brings a distant hum along with it as more leaves fly past you. Then you see that somebody has wrote on the fence, ' The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step". You are the only person waiting for the train and have not been distracted by other people thus everything seemingly has been magnified. The writing on the fence from a few years back done in ink signed an dated from a girl that you had known in school and wished she was your girl x ten. Here comes the Rock Island down the grade with twin headlights beaming though the old train bridge on a black frame an glides up and stops for about ten seconds. The Conductor hops off while you hop on and says ' all aboard ' as you turn and glance at him he waves to the Engineer up front and your off. A gentle tug and the smell of those steam heated coaches were always memorable. You can't wait for dinner in the diner so a hot coffee will do with a BLT that's been waiting to enjoy. As you sit back on the cushions and watch the countryside fly by sippin that hot coffee with a bite every five min savoring that BLT that you wish would never end you think to yourself, what will be the last bite coffee or BLT. The train rolls and sways and steel wheels meet the track on overland rails. As the train rolls along you feel a slight chill sitting so close to the window and then you here the heaters by your feet making that little sound and the heat is coming on. Rite on time. The Rock Island Line. 11/8 .
