Looking at this photo, you'd think steam powered trains here were only a few years earlier and then there were dinosaurs. Hard to believe this was as "recent" as 1978! Olive green bi-level passenger cars were surely on their way!

"Back then", Harrison was a GREAT place to watch trains, even if, on a summer day, you could feel, smell & taste the air, mixed with ozone, diesel exhaust and that "wonderful" smell of hot brake-shoes. I MISS those times. Think about the fact that this Conrail unit was unable to supply HEP for air conditioning and those dirty windows(which you could probably hardly see out of) were sealed closed. 60s - 70s commuting was NOT for the claustrophobic.
