Very sad to see the lumber industry destroyed here in the PacNW!

I think some clarification is in order here. Simpson has announced plans to shut down operations at two of their mills in an asset sale agreement with Sierra Pacific Industries of Northern California. However, they have also noted that they plan to build a larger mill located on the existing Shelton waterfront site, which will employ 200 people and is expected to be open in 2017. Simpson will continue to operate its door company in McCleary, which employs 188, and will continue to own its railroad properties, tracks, tidelands and other properties in the Shelton waterfront area. By all accounts, it seems that they will be cutting back much of the rail traffic, and be re-purposing many of the existing structures. However there do not seem to be any plans to simply abandon rail service.
