I'm glad they remain - I had heard they had all been sold. If these were UK locos in the UK, they would have been saved a long, long time ago. That's the problem with countries where steam hung on into the late 20th century - so many notable diesels and electrics were, or will be lost. Holding thumbs for their safe passage to a better future - a very moody pic. Love it.

I'm sure we here in the UK had some electric locomotives which looked a little like the centre cab loco in front ES18? I think the ones we had were built by the LNER. Not sure when, but no doubt somebody reading this will know.

Very interesting to see that the first loco in your photo very much resembles the North Easter Railway's 1902 built electric locomotives of the ES1 Class Bo-Bo locomotives only two of them were built, that had no classification until 1945 when they became Class ES1 (Electric Shunting 1) The could pick up power from overhead as well as from a third rail, additional info can be found from this link http://www.lner.info/locos/Electric/es1.shtml Good photos I hope something good can happen to them

Rob - rather odd that you didn't make the connection between the Class 1E behind the ES and the UK EM1 class - also of LNER parentage.
