Oh! That looks like so much fun to operate! So very unique that the first and last units of a series survive on to bracket those that didn't, presumably. What great colors and textures in the yard to contrast the shiny-clean locomotives...so much to look at!

Most of these Quarry Hunslets still survive mostly at various locations around the UK. They are a joy to watch when in steam.

Thanks for posting your Beamish Museum photos! Looks like the festival would be something very interesting to see.

It is a great event to attend, everything runs on steam apart from trams and buses. Even the merry-go-round at the fair is steam driven. If you want to see more of other exhibits try http://beamishtransportonline.co.uk/imagegalleries/great-north-festival-of-transport-2015/

I wonder what the story is behind the one not in steam at the top left...?

That is "Malleable No 5" It was the first locomotive used by Tanfield Railway which is about 2 miles from this spot. When the boiler ticket expired it was transferred to Beamish and has remained here ever since slowly getting rustier. Knowing the staff at Beamish it will get restored but when is anyone's guess.
