PRR did stripe driver, lead and pony truck tires on flat light grey portrait engines. The practice was one of the many ways the PRR did things it's own way. It looks strange, indeed.

My first thought was "What a great looking 2-8-2". Then, "Is it me, or is that a Belpaire firebox?!" The smoke box give her away. And yes, the white-trimmed drivers look about as appropriate as ketchup on a Philly cheese steak! Nice portrait- thanks for sharing!

Don't remember ever seeing a picture of an IRR steamer. And that turntable sure looks jury-rigged. Thanks for the posting Ron.

Thanks for posting this picture. It seems that black & white pics don't come around here lately. This 2-8-2 Mikado is gorgeous. I had never heard of IRR prior to NS 30th anniversary with their heritage units. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder how IRR 14 took to burning the soft coal from the local mines. Interesting addition to the IRR roster indeed!
