In the UK, drivers of oversized loads must stop and telephone the signaller for authorization to cross. It seems in the US, truck drivers with oversized loads have a right to just carry on regardless. Surely, they should be made to file a route with any railroad they cross at grade and must be prevented from crossing until given authority by the relevant railroad. It would help avoid accidents like this - the next one could be fatal.

Based on the updated news reports, the fault lies with the state cops who were guiding the truck and were to stupid to call the railroad to check the train traffic, knowing full well it was going to take them a tleast 5 minutes to get the truck across the grade.

Someone should go to jail over this. Let's start with the state cops. Could have been a disaster.
