I think they're supposed to look like that...it's the paint scheme!

It's a long, long way from the Pilbara mining region of Western Australia, I know, I've been there. Another illustration of the economic slowdown in China.

Looks like GE is showing EMD the way.

Nice catch, Michael! I'd hate to hear what the "shipping and handling" fee was!

It's EMD's "Boomerang Fleet" - they sent them to Australia - now they've come back! Just like a boomerang! LOL!!

Nice catch! Anybody have any idea why these units were returned? They can't be more than just a few years old. Downturn in business, perhaps?

No they are not rusty, that is just their paint job. Burn orange and dark green. The first 13 Sd70Ace units purchased by BHP were 'non whisper cabs' and were not permitted to run as lead units for health reasons. They were sold recently after the purchase of more SD70Ace's and not as the result of the Chinese downturn. Record tonnages are still being hauled by the Iron Ore giant. BHP recently also disposed of all their Ac6000's and Dash-8 Pilbara cab locomotives in favour of the Sd70 units (nearly 200 in total)
