Excellent catch. Had never seen of been aware of this modification. Built between 1957-1949 these units didn't last long.

I like the oddball pilot. I've always thought Alco PAs looked slightly better than EMD F-units (I'm going to get it from the purists for that!)

Always liked the looks of FA's and PA's, very Masculine and Brutish ! Strange looking Pilot for this unit

UP seemed to have a knack for 'bastardizing' an otherwise fine looking locomotive during this time/era. ;)
