Nice scene! I clearly remember raildom’s temperament concerning Conrail’s formation in 1976… seemingly few were happy about it, while most of the railroad press predicted a quick demise. But… Conrail turned out to be an incredible success, with plenty of folks obviously gaining emotional ties over the years.

Ironically, these are probably soon going to be candidates for BOTH an "AC" conversion AND a "safety cab" conversion - reversing BOTH of Norfolk Southern's preferred specs at the time.
