Spectacular shot Mike. How long did it take you to hike to the site?

Great shot! Really unique, and very sharp! Can you tell us some more about how you reached this location? Were you hoping to photograph this train in particular?

This is quite an amazing image!! I enjoy the diagonal composition between the head of the train and the dark storm clouds. It looks like you got the only nearby break in the clouds just in time for the trains passing. PCA nominated.

Mark: Not too far, about 2/3 mile from Trough Road. dnsommer: There is a 4WD road that takes you part way in, but don’t drive it when rainy. With the lower train count on the Moffat Subdivision nowadays, I’ll take any train I can get. At least both Amtrak California Zephyr‘s pass through here in daylight everyday. There is something about a passenger train in dramatic scenery that makes the mind wander to a pleasant journey on a train… Thanks for the nice comments, guys!

Thanks, Mike! Have to try and get up there someday! Just noticed we posted photos of the same engine today: Amtrak P42 #45!

Is this Tunnel 39? Unique perspective on this scene. Simply 'Grande!

I love storm light, Mike. Add in the dramatic scenery and you have quite a catch with this one. Just beautiful!
