It occurs to me that a monorail is an expensive solution, applied only as a way to keep the cars and roads in place, while cities should be designed to have more human-friendly transport systems.

Yes it is on the east side...got my east west...corrected. Yes the Monorail is an expensive solution now if it had been closer to the strip or run from the airport to Fremont St it may do better. Walt Disney World's monorail is a fully functional transport system so if applied right, it can work.
