By the way everything looks I think that is actually Tolono not Tolona and by that year ICG would be crossing over the former Wabash....nee Norfolk & Western to the present day Norfolk Southern Diamnonds

Tolono, IL, an awesome place to watch trains. I grew up near here and my father and I would railran here at the depot before they tore it down in the early 90s.

Outstanding photo, Jack. Snagging orders is another lost art in railroading! Tolona looks like a great place to be back in the day!

Whats great about this pic is all the things that you rarely see anymore that were pretty common in not to long ago RR scenes and I miss them. Thanks John

Look at the safety features on the caboose behind the conductors rear end to prevent him from a possible slip from slack action or snowy icy conditions in blizzard conditions. I applaud the railroads safety first way of thinking in keeping the conductor onboard and on the job, not falling off the train as the snow falls on a cold an grey Chicago morning another conductor fell off the train in the ghetto ....in his pajamas. I wonder as I joke how many times this has really happened. Cheers .
