The Gs were still hanging in there but not for long. I bet you are glad you caught one in each color. Nice!

I DETESTED this paint scheme at the time, but i guess, Amtrak HAD to put "their brand" on things. This image also points out another "problem" of that era, in that the "drive through" car washers at NY and Washington were designed for passenger cars and thus only washed the SIDES of whatever passed through them. The result being that the noses of the Gs stayed very dirty.
