At first when I joined RP, I avoided NS because of thinking their black locos do not attracted the eyes' attention like other colours do. Your capture here Chase has them standing out beautifully, and on an overcast day at that! Thanks for sharing. I have however, noted that on a number of tanker trains that there is a boxcar by the locos. Is this for early fire response by by train crews?

While boxcars are sometimes used this particular car here is a Airslide Hopper. They are used as a buffer car to add space between the Loco's & rest of the tank train.

They use a boxcar,to keep a space between the locomotives and the tak cars, for safety reasons.
