First, second, fourth and fifth car are former Southern Pacific bi-level gallery commuter cars from the mid 1950', which ran between San Francisco and San Jose till 1985. They were later (about 1990) rebuilt for Transcisco Tours for the "Sierra 49er" train from San Jose to Reno NV. This is what I found in the Internet, hope it is more or less correct.

Georg, you are correct - those are former SP gallery cars from the San Francisco Bay Area commutes. A bit ugly on the outside, but very nice on the inside!
