It's more likely that, had Alfred Pearlman had his way and voted out of the PC merger, the SD40s would likely have worn the all black with white and yellow trim, like the U-boats and GP30s. Regardless, it's nice to see NYC colors on a big engine like an SD40-2 for the "what-could-have-been".
