Actually, AT&SF purchased quite a few four-axle EMDs between the GP35s and GP40Xs including GP38s #s 3500-3560 and GP39-2s #s 3600-3682 (3683-3705 came in 1979-1980, after the GP40Xs in 1978.)

T Mitchell, You're absolutely correct, I forgot all about. I just deleted that section. I was purely thinking of the GP40 production which was skipped. ATSF did have one GP40 that was short lived and second hand form the TPW takeover.
