Probably to be entered with the other cars found around the system. Rumor has it that Wick said to round up all these when NS bought the other 3 F Units.

I wonder, with so many better cars available, why did NS choose to rebuild this junker?

The good thing about this restoration is that it will keep some railroad people working. Kinda' silly, but I would like to see "before" and "after" photos, if there are "after" shots.

That's going to be some overhaul!

I have a feeling the shops at Juniata will take this lump of coal and make it into a diamond.

You know black paint will cover anything.

The slumber windows would go good with an observation window end and theater seating ! I cannot imagine they would use that type of sleeping arrangements except for maybe the crew. They can work miracles when they have NS Corporate budget monies behind them.

They CERTAINLY have a lot of work to do, but it certainly COULD be resurrected. Going by the faded greens and NP "monad" logo, I would wager this CB& Q car was built for pool service on the North Coast Limited which offered Duplex Roomettes.

Some quick on-line research has revealed the following: CB&Q 480 was built by Pullman in1948 as one of a very small ( probably 3) group of 8 Duplex Roomette, 6 Conventional Roomette, 4 Double Bedroom cars. Photos confirm that they all appear to have been assigned to NP's North Coast Limited and in their later days were used as "budget sleepers" prior to NP acquiring their Budd-built "Slumbercoaches." The name "Chicago" seems to have been connected to this car, though North Coast sleepers did not wear an exterior name. A similar car in full NP paint is in a museum in Kirkwood, MO.

I believe this car was sitting in the NS ex NKP Calumet Yard in Chicago for some time.

Further research revealed that this group of sleepers was delivered from Pullman in NP's traditional dark green with gold striping. At that time it carried the name "Chicago" on its flanks. The other 2 cars in the group also carried names of on-line cities . The names were removed when the cars were re-painted into the Raymond Loewy two-tone green scheme most often associated with the North Coast Limited.
