A perfectly good photo of a platform and a telephone pole ruined by that monstrosity.

The shape was dictated by crash-worthyness, i.e., crush space and strength. That Talgo is owned by Oregon and in a high-quality fast service jointly run with the State of Washington. And it crosses an international boarder without customs delays! All that is quite an accomplishment these days.

If Marty is correct does this mean that all trains must now be utterly hideous. That sounds like an "official" answer, promulgated by the government after screwing up. Thanks for the shot Marty. Not added to favorites.

This is a light weight train. We want the engineer to survive a crash with a freight train. Look at the design of the new Metrolink can cars. They have crush space in front of the engineer and passengers.

Marty has a valid point - I think we can all find some common ground and agree none of us would like to be caught dead in that thing.
