The structure over the barge reminds me of a bit of dialogue from Down Periscope. "I feel I need a tetanus shot just looking at it. The only things holding her together are the bird droppings, sir."

PC vote for a rare shot of a fascinating operation and most unique structure - though somewhat dilapidated appearing!

Ah, the bad old days! I guess it would be a good idea to keep these dilapidated lifts around to show the young ones what New York/New Jersey railroad waterfront looked like in the 70's-80's-90's.

The float bridge was built for the PRR back in 1907. Due to years of neglect and deferred maintenance, only one of the five bridges was in operation. Unfortunately, a month after this photo was taken, Hurricane Sandy hit, and the entire structure was damaged beyond repair, and was demolished soon after. The old 59th Street pontoon float bridge from Brooklyn was brought over and is now used in its place. I've been told that I was more than likely the last person to document this float bridge in both photo and video.
