Frame looks good. Actually, everything besides the pilot, cab, and cab sub-base looks to be in decent shape. I would guess it would have gotten rebuilt and hit the road again, but I'm no east coast expert, hence my screen name.

These were already on borrowed time at this point. I doubt they spent the $.

SD/GP35's were the last generator-equipped EMD's (and were pushing the envelope for that technology) prior to the AR10 alternators in the 40 series. The 35's we're not particularly successful although some (e.g. SP GP 35's) we're successfully rebuilt.

Everything around the nose is bashed to hell, yet not a scratch or blemish on the nose itself....how does that happen!?

CSX 4511, was involved in a sideswipe collision when cars rolled down a grade and through a derail which had not been set properly. The engineer was killed. Cracks were discovered in its frame, prompting the railroad to part out what they could, and then scrap the rest.
