Don't know what to say about the appearance of this locomotive..words just escape me..! All I can think to say is..I'm surprised someone hasn't painted "Heinz Ketchup" on the nose of this Frankenbeast freak of motive power..! Looks like a fat Ketchup bottle on serious steroids - mated to a Cheez-Whiz spray bottle..DIFFERENT!! (To say the least!)

I know what to say. Which French firm did they hire to design it? Sorry. I just had to.

I had the pleasure of a long chat with one of the CRANDIC's engineers this summer. That brightly colored engine is actually a 1500 XD and slug, a product of Relco Locomotives in Albia, IA. They have a slew of neat-o features, such as extra weight for the type of slow speed high tractive effort work that the CRANDIC does and compressed air switch cleaners (the nozzles on the front of the locomotive - used to clean slow out of switches and crossings rather than a broom). Unfortunately, the first two units have had some software bugs to work out, but they should be pretty sweet once development is complete!

I must say... I kind of like it. Smooth, symmetrical, interesting, bright... not bad.

Interesting lights on the cab. I suppose those are for illuminating the ground on which the engineer walks when operating in remote control mode.

CRDC #202 is not a modified MK1500D but rather a custom built locomotive from Relco. CRDC has 8 of these units, model 1500XD and all are paired with slugs. The units were jointly designed by the CRDC and Relco. They are powered by a 1500hp EMD 12-645E prime mover and are built on refurbished former GP7/9 frames.

Only CIC 201 and CIC 202 have been delivered so far. CIC 203 was recently spotted outside the shop at Relco's Albia facility.

I can't help it, that round roof fan reminds me for all in the world of a steam locomotive stack.
