Paraphrasing from the Texas State RR web site, philanthropist Amon Carter funded the rebuild of 610 for the 1976 Bicentennial Freedom Train that ran across Texas. Then leased to the SR for several years of excursion service, and by 1986 she was donated to the Texas State RR and placed on display. Their web site lists currently operating 2-8-0 & 4-6-0 power on its roster.
