Great photo. I am struck by the sharpness of the loco and its consist, but the softness of the surrounding foliage. It shows me that man is an intrusion into the beauty of nature. I really like this very striking photo, great color and composition.

Interesting photo and history David. I lived near Austin for quite a while before I became aware of the lignite mines to the east and northeast. There is quite a long history of lignite mining here. The power plant near Rockdale is still in operation and they were using nearby lignite until the date you mentioned. The power plant was part of ALCOA and they shuttered the aluminum production a couple of years ago. The adjacent Rockdale and Sandow RR really took a hit and they move just a fraction of what they used to.
