Beautiful souvenir.

It was faster than any VIA train today, a sad state of affairs. And the tracks too seemed to be in better shape back then.

The cost of JP4 caught up with turbo power, along with the fact that the United Aircraft Turbos were nearly 15 years old when their time ran out. Not bad for an experimental machine. The DOT/Amtrak turbos did spawn the French RTG's and the Rohr turbos, all of which lasted longer than their planned(intended) 10 year service lives. These were great as you could get a cab ride without having to hide going into or out of stations en route! The fuel odors and their rough riding characteristics on poorly maintained track were their downsides. Would I ride a UA turbo trip today? Yes.
