Its fascinating to see this photo as I have traveled on this line. I can tell that the route shown below with the dark background is the LGV but what are the lines with the light colored background on the top of the photo? Is that the parallel PLM route?

As you said, it is the connection with the PLM line, you have St Florentin connection, Passilly connection to go to Dijon, Macon connection to go to Chalon-sur-Saône (also used to go to Macon-Loché for Postal TGV) and Pont-de-Veyle connection to go to Bourg-en-Bresse.
