How come the British had no head light,they run during daytime only?

No, they run at night, I believe it is because British right of ways are much more fenced off than in North America.

Pierre, I am not 100% sure, but I believe that British railways used mostly removable headlamps (excepted maybe on Bulleid's light pacifics class which had electric headlights). These were stored in a case in the tender, and installed only when necessary. Please correct me if I am wrong.
