Thanks for the memories, I was stationed at Ft Belvoir and I spent many a weekend wandering around this area in the summer of 83.

How great to see an image of Pot Yard the way it was!! Today the mains are located far on the other side of the old yard and the buildings just keep going up, and up, and up! Today's Pot Yard is a small suburban townscape...how things change!!

John, yes it is great to see Pot Yard how I remember it as well. I have quite a few shots of the hump yard in action. Back then in the early 1980's you could walk right up to the hump and with common sense the RF&P folks left you alone and were friendly. Not in today's world!

Yes, it was quite common for me to walk around the yard and take photos. In fact on one occasion an employee told me about a Chessie train departing with a WM unit in the consist then offered to give me a ride to the north end. Time to re-visit those slides.

I wish that they still had a need for Pot Yards; it would be great to have a massive hump yard only an hour away from my house! I was never there to see the yard, but my mother lived in Alexandria for a long time and talks about the Southern boxcars she saw there. I wish I was there.
