Chris - I'm sorry this comment is really late, however, I really appreciate this photo, and whoever took it had some difficult lighting to deal with, but they pulled it off very well. I do wish to make one correction to your description and information. The 4-8-4 "Northerns" that were ordered by the Union Pacific were only ordered in 3 "batches" or "groups" from Alco. So, this locomotive was part of the third order, making this an FEF-3. No. 844, also an FEF-3 Class, was the LAST steam locomotive built by Alco, and the last steam locomotive delivered to the Union Pacific before they started converting to Diesels. The FEF-4 designation is incorrect. Fun fact: The reason Union Pacific designated these locomotives as "FEF's" was due to the 4-8-4 wheel design being born by the Northern Pacific Railroad, a staunch competitor, and UP didn't want to give the NP any "credit" or acknowledgement by calling them "Northerns"!
