Is this much snow on the ground typical for this time of year? How deep does the snow get during the winters? Interesting shot.

These units do not have M.U. capabilities. They were designed to have them and a few units may have been fitted with M.U. equipment but it was never used on a large scale. Actually, none of the Romanian-made locomotives in active service today are capable of MU operation, so it's always the locomotive with its own crew.
As for the snow, the date must be wrong. In the area where the picture was taken all snow would have melted by early March.
