This is a good example of features that pre-date the AAR "Clean Cab" design of 1972 including in-cab access to the number board lights (these are another way debris can enter the cab in a collision), the single handle for power and dynamic brake (with the red selector lever immediately above) and the exposed windshield wiper motors. The number board doors, however, were a great way to get light into the cab a night!
