I think both are great and both are winners, I like your wider approach as much as Eric closer composition.
Exciting experiment to have 2 well skilled photographers side by side and see what they saw!

Love the long streak pulling your eye through the scene! There are so many great ways to capture this scene. Thanks for suggesting the idea about going here after the conference….great choice!
