It looked like they use(d) it for a back-up generator as there are cables running down from the car into the ground. The other side had louvers for the generator.

It is worth the visit. Don't forget the steam engine in front and the active rail line in the back. Great photo.

Hopefully you had a chance to stop by our museum: tcmrm.org We now have two buildings full of layouts in every scale! The boxcar is indeed backup power. Another commenter mentioned the GTW steam engine out front, there is also an old caboose frame on the transfer table that was used as a stage for outdoor events when this facility was a busy mall.
