If I remember correctly, these ex-L&NE units weren't able to MU with the L&N AlCo's, and so would usually operate in matched consists. I believe they were also the only FA-1's ever owned by the L&N, as the L&N had skipped the FA-1/FB-1, and had bought the FA/FB-2's instead.

Indeed it is an FA1, a simple way to tell is whether there is a section of grille behind the set of shutters high on the rear of the carbody. The FA1 has a shorter carbody and lacks this section. L&N had a nice way with touching up predecessor schemes, rather like the D&H.
