This shot shows the genius of General Herman Haupt, who sacrificed distance for a safe, practical grade for the PRR and successors Penn Central, Conrail and Norfolk Southern. This shot is really only this effective in the winter. I bet it was cold up there. Alvin F. Staufer would have liked this shot

Very nice photo! It's so neat to see the trains hug the side of the mountain through this area. Last year, I watched the NKP 765 from Rt 22 head west through here (a small glimpse of Rt 22 can be seen to the far right). I too agree - Mr. Staufer would be pleased with this photo. Thanks for sharing!
