These were sad times for the shipping and railroad infrastructure of New York and the Northeast as the old ways were being cast away by post WWII progress. I remember seeing the Hudson River in the 50's. Even into the 60's, there were so many, ferries, boats, tugs, lighters, barges, and ships you could practically walk from one side of the Hudson to the other. Now? Only airplanes use it to make emergency landings. :-)

Although its not really a railway photo as such, I do like it. Time moves on and people and things change, not always for the better. It gets a PCA vote from me, as I have a great interest in history and old photographs, nice one thanks for sharing.

Im from Elmira & I love that EL/DLW/ERIE did tugs for Cities they connected to. I have pic of a ferry from DLW i dont remember the name. Wish i got to see EL, I was born 14yrs too late when CR started..
