Wonder how one of these would have looked in the fancier liveries applied to Bipolars, and the Fairbanks passenger locos.

Very nice shot in fresh paint. I was told by a man very knowledgeable about the Milw. Road that they were afraid of losing these units to Amtrak. Aparently the steam generatorrs were removed and they were gereared for freight service. If anyone could confirm this it would be Tom Farence.

Page 71 in Jerry Pinkepank and Louis Marre's 1979 book Diesel Spotter's Guide Update mentions Santa Fe and Milwaukee having FP45 and in the next sentence, "The FP45s were designed such that they would be suitable as freight locomotives if no longer needed for passenger service, and they were so converted after Amtrak began in May 1971".
