Is it the lack of grabs on the nose or the slope of the downangle at the corners that sets it apart?

Nope this is a dash8. It was involved in an accident and was refitted with a dash9 cab.

Didn't I hear somewhere the Roanoke Shops may be implementing a program to outfit existing Dash 8's with a widecab.

There were two Conrail Dash 8's that were damaged. They replaced with new cab that had everything above the windshield. I believe the other is on CSX.
