Lathen is on the DB's line between Rheine and Emden, one of the last strongholds of steam in Germany. The Class 012s were 3-cylinder machines that had a cadence like nothing you ever heard from the likes of 765 or 611. In February 1975, this locomotive is only weeks or months away from retirement.
