I enjoyed EL ROCO’s above picture and story. Possibly this trestle could have been designated as a historical item if it wasn’t so remote and difficult to get to as per the narrative. There is a timeline of history for the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway found on Wikipedia which includes a photo of a couple of SP freight cars that fell in the gorge. Involvement by the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum at one point was mentioned and I wondered if excursions were possible which would take fans/tourists to the area to at least view this beautiful structure. However, the catastrophes mentioned along the entire line, including fires, tunnel collapses, washouts, vandalism, earthquakes and even a mentioned hurricane may preclude this idea. The Pacific Imperial Railroad did conduct an inspection of this "Desert Line" in March 2013.

Please help this not-to-knowledgeable rail fan, what does it mean the line has been embargoed?

The line was closed to further use pending maintenance upgrades by either the owner (San Diego Transit) or the FRA. The line is leased to the RR that is alleged to be running it (PIR). Currently, the company cannot make revenue runs until the track and bridges are fixed.

To answer David Doty, Sr. - An embargo is issued by the Government that essentially shuts the business down by prohibiting the business to ship or export/transport goods, merchandise, or any other commodity or product due to a violation of law, or an act of aggressive disobedience to a government law or regulation, or criminal act in defiance of a government regulation or law. Hence it is my guess that the Carrizo Gorge Railway was in some sort of violation of FRA rules and regulations, I am guessing that they did not like the rules or regulations and probably violated those rules and regulations, and therefore are now facing the Government issued embargo. It's also similar to prohibition - you can't run your railroad because we say so!
